on the slopes of Mount Agung. in eastern Bali, is the most important,
the largest and holiest temple of Agama Hindu Dharma in Bali., Indonesia and
one of a series of Balinese temples.
The temple probably dates to the fourteenth century. It was built on the south
slopes of Mount Agung, the principal volcano of Bali. The temple is actually
a complex made up of twenty-two temples that sit on parallel ridges.
It has stepped terraces and flights of stairs which ascend to a number of
courtyards and brick gateways that lead up to the main spire Meru structure,
which is called Pura Penataran Agung.

To inculcate the attitude of life does not destroy the natural processes that
God was worshiped as the god of the Sea. In the Hindu tradition in Bali God as
Lord of the Sea' was called ''Bhatara Tengahing Segara". In Bali Pura Goa Lawah
is to worship God as Lord of the Sea. Pura Goa Lawah in the
Village District Pesinggahan Dawan, Klungkung is the center of Pura Segara in Bali to
worship God as Lord of the Sea.

Kertagosa buildings in the ancient times has several functions, among which are:
(1) as the place of the hearing, led by the king as supreme judge,
(2) as a meeting place for kings in Bali, and
(3) as a place to perform ceremonies Manusa Yadnya or cutting teeth (mepandes)
for the king's sons.
